Head Positioning

When you roll to the side to inhale, and your mouth is above the water level, you can easily inhale in a short time. Do not exhale outside the water it can save your time for inhaling more as well as exhaling inside water can relax your body underwater.

Elbow Positioning

The position of the elbow plays an important role in freestyle swimming. Your elbow should be high before striking the arms. High elbow positioning helps to keep your forearm upright for a long time.

Once your elbow is positioned high before striking the arm. Bend your elbow and bring it outward so that your forearm can easily move vertically. Your palm and forearm should be facing backward. It will allow you to push back against the water with maximum energy.

Watch Your Recovering Arm

When recovering, your arm should not reach too far. Reaching to forward with your recovering arms can be a bad idea in two ways:

  •  First, reaching too far forward with a recovering arm can create instability in the water and an extra drag. The turbulence can cause disbalance and your position can be disturbed
  • Secondly, this can cause shoulder intrusion, inflammation, and tendonitis after a while. This condition is known as Swimmer’s shoulder

Therefore, you should slide your hand earlier in the water, for example, cover half the distance of an extended arm. Then extend your arm forward under the water.
